FAQs

Once you have print ready files (digital files for cover and internal pages, produced in design layout software), turnaround to finished books is typically 3-4 weeks, including production of your press proof. This includes 2-3 days for you to check your proof and request any amendments to the files. If you have an event deadline for delivery of your books, notify us at the start so we can work with you to achieve it.

Cost per book varies widely depending on the size, colour of print (colour pages are more expensive than black), cover finish, and quantity per print run. The best option is to ask for an initial estimate on your likely specification and quantity. We can then work with you to achieve the most economical outcome.

If you can use a graphic design software package and produce high resolution pdf files for the cover and internal pages, then yes. Otherwise we strongly recommend you get professional design assistance. An experienced book designer will create an appealing cover (your book will be judged by its cover!) and an internal layout that is appealing, easy to read and supports your content. Professional designers also know how to supply designs correctly for print.
Ask us if you need help with design. We have an in-house design service, or can recommend a design partner for specialist book projects.

If you’re planning to create your book file in Word, we strongly recommend you get professional assistance to produce the finished files. Talk to us about our inhouse design service.
There is a wide range of potential book sizes. Check out your local bookshop, and see what’s common in different book genres. The small paperback (B format 130 x 198mm) and A5 (210 x 148.5mm) are two of the most popular. Minuteman Press has high flexibility with book sizes. We’ll also advise you if you’re selecting a size which may not be the most economical for your purpose.
Our most popular cover options are 300gsm with either Matt or Gloss Laminate. We also offer an economical Clear Sealer, and have a range of specialty finishes including 3D Spot UV. Most internal pages are either bright white Laser, or Book Cream (commonly used by traditional publishers for large run paperbacks). Yes, recycled stocks are available for both cover and internal pages. These are generally at a higher price point than standard papers.
Yes. Modern digital presses allow you to insert colour pages throughout your book. It isn’t necessary to have these in a separate section. Colour pages are less economical than black.
Most self publishing authors choose a paperback style bind (either Perfect Bind or PUR Bind). For books with small page numbers, saddlestitch (stapled on spine) is often a better choice. Wire bind and hard case bind are also available.
